It’s no secret that a massive heat wave has overtaken the country. This summer it seems hotter than usual, even in Arizona (which means the heat feels deadly). There are several ways that we can keep our dogs cool in the summer, but how about treating them to some tasty, summertime treats? Here is a healthy list of delicious summer snacks for dogs.
Delicious Summer Snacks for Dogs
Watermelon
Watermelon is a very healthy treat for dogs. Not only can it help keep dogs hydrated, but frozen watermelon will make a nice cold snack for your dogs during sweltering temperatures. If you want to get creative, try whipping up these mouthwatering watermelon dog treats from Bark and Biscuits.
Frozen Peanut Butter
Fill your dog’s favorite Kong with peanut butter and put it in the freezer for cool, enriching snack time! You can also make these delectable DIY frozen peanut butter treats.
Pupsicles
Make your own pupsicles, which can include ingredients of your choice. I’ve put together these 3-ingredient pupsicles which my dogs happen to love. Keep in mind that they will be messy, so allow your dog to enjoy them outdoors.
Frosty Paws
Purina makes an ice cream treat for dogs called Frosty Paws. As far as I know you can pick them up at major grocery stores like Walmart and Kroger. Frosty Paws come in a little cup so your dog can eat them inside or outside.
Cheese Ice Cream
This marvelous DIY recipe for cheese ice cream comes to you via my good friend Jodi at Kol’s Notes. I’m sure it’s as tasty as it sounds, and I can’t wait to make it for Wynston!
Puppy Scoops
I was introduced to a pet brand called Puppy Cake at SuperZoo 2018. Not only do they offer cake mixes, but they also have doggy ice cream available called Puppy Scoops! I like this product because all you have to do is add water and freeze it! Then voila – ice cream for your pup!
Blueberry Frozen Yogurt Treats
These 2-ingredient blueberry frozen yogurt dog treats are a great option for the summer. Not only are they healthy, but they’re easy to make. Blueberries also offer a plethora of health benefits for dogs. If your pup isn’t a fan of yogurt, you can simply freeze some blueberries, bananas or strawberries.
Chicken Broth Ice Cubes
This treat is as simple as it sounds. Pour some chicken broth (or your choice of broth) into ice cube trays and freeze for a few hours. Put the broth cubes into a bowl and watch your pup devour!
Frozen Banana & Coconut Oil Treats
You all know I’m a big fan of limited-ingredient DIY dog treat recipes. Here’s one for frozen banana and coconut oil treats from Boogie the Pug, which only calls for three ingredients. These treats are easy to whip up, offer wonderful health benefits for dogs, and will give your pup something cold to munch on.
Carob Fudgsicles for Dogs AND Humans (Vegan & Gluten Free)
For those of you who want to enjoy a tasty treat with your dog, try these carob fudgiscles from our friends at Long Haul Trekkers. This recipe contains several vitamins and minerals for our furry friends, and humans can also devour this cool snack. Don’t worry, though. These don’t contain chocolate. Carob is an excellent substitute, as it is caffeine-free, naturally sweet and great for digestion.
