Fall is upon us! Stores are putting up their Halloween merchandise and Facebook is going crazy with everything ‘pumpkin spice’. No complaints here – I love fall! The weather is starting to cool down (we’ve had days in the high 90s!) and I can actually sit outside in the morning to enjoy my tea. As we wrap up summer, let me share some ways you can get your dogs ready for fall.
Get Your Dogs Ready for Fall
Search for a doggy Halloween costume: Most pet parents get a kick out of dressing their dogs up for Halloween. All of my dogs hate it, so I don’t put them through the torture. However I will put Wynston in a t-shirt or bandana because it’s just so cute! Start shopping for a Halloween costume early because the size you need may not be in stock as we get closer to the big day. You can also consider a festive harness or collar that could double as a costume, like this DC Comics Pet Halloween Superman Dog Harness! I’d recommend PetSmart for all of your pet’s Halloween needs. (Please remember to make sure that your pet is comfortable and anxiety-free in the costume. If not, opt for a cute collar or t-shirt instead!).
Make some homemade pumpkin treats: I have a delicious pumpkin peanut butter dog treat recipe. It’s simple to make with limited ingredients. No better way to get your dogs ready for fall than with some tasty pumpkin!
Buy your pet a Halloween toy: Although my dogs have a billion toys, I still like to buy themed ones for each holiday. Wynston really likes the doggy squeaky toys like this BoBo Pet Halloween Frankenstein Dog Toy. We have a “Frankenbeagle,” ghost, pumpkin and other cute Halloween toys. Once again, I’d recommend PetSmart for the cutest holiday toys, no matter what time of year it is!
DIY dog treat cups: I like giving out dog treats to the dogs who are walking around with trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. Last year I made these DIY Halloween Doggy Treat Cups and they were a big hit! Plus I think your dog would appreciate being the taste tester for this project 😉
Buy new dog clothes: Fall isn’t a cold time of year for us Arizonans but I know for the most of the country it is! Are you prepared to take your dogs on outings in the cold? If not, consider purchasing a dog jacket or sweater.
Update their tags and microchip: Halloween is a holiday where a lot of dogs and cats run away or get lost. This is mostly due to the door opening a lot on Halloween night for trick-or-treaters. Pets may also get startled from all of the spooky commotion and attempt to escape. Make sure their tags and microchip information is all up to date!
The first official day of fall is September 22nd, but we are ready now! Bring on the pumpkin, cool weather and Halloween! Are you and your dogs ready for fall?

I love the idea of pumpkin dog treats. They sound healthy and delicious, and I know my dog will love them. I wonder if my cat would get jealous though!
