It seems like just yesterday that my mom was talking about buying a second home in Payson, AZ. I can’t believe a year has already gone by! Payson is only about 1.5 hours north of the greater Phoenix valley, so it’s the perfect place to have a home to escape the heat and desert. Payson is extremely different from the desert – the mountains still exist but they are filled with greenery and pine trees instead of dirt and cactus. The temperatures run much cooler than Phoenix. During the winter the temps can drop as low as 20 degrees or so, but normally they stick around 30-40 degrees. They will get snow, but most likely a light dusting. It’s truly wonderful because you can enjoy the winter season without freezing to death and shoveling snow for hours.
Startling Statistics for National Pet Obesity Awareness Day
As the obesity rate of Americans continues to grow, so does the obesity rate of our pets. Obesity is just as deadly to animals as it is to humans. Is your dog or cat overweight? Excess weight puts your pet at risk for diabetes, heart disease, shortened life, high blood pressure, kidney disease and many forms of cancer. Sound familiar? That’s right – obesity can cause the same problems in our pets that it can for us! Pretty scary, huh?! October 7th, 2015 is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day according to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention. So get out, take your dog on a walk and start helping your pet lose weight!
The Importance of Daily Dog Walks – National Walk Your Dog Week
Many people think that having a yard for your dogs means daily walks aren’t necessary. This is a common misconception. Going on a walk is the most enriching activity you can do with your dog. The sights, smells and sounds give your dog the mental and physical stimulation they need. It’s National Walk Your Dog Week so we’re discussing why it’s extremely important to take your dog on a daily walk.
Coffee, Art and Local Produce – Our Morning in Downtown Gilbert
My favorite thing to do as a dog mom is get together with my dog mom friends! I love the fall, winter and spring in Arizona because the weather is nice enough to go on outdoor outings all the time. Downtown Gilbert is a hot spot in the area with many dog friendly restaurants and a weekly farmer’s market. I’d say this is one of the many reasons I love Gilbert – it’s incredibly dog friendly. So today I got together with my girlfriends for coffee, the Gilbert Art Walk and to browse local produce and products at the farmer’s market.
Save a Life During October for Adopt a Shelter Pet Month!
I have been involved in animal rescue for over 8 years now. Volunteering, fostering, donation coordination – I’ve done it all. My passion is for rescue animals and the rights of those who can’t speak. I preach the phrase “adopt, don’t shop” because shelters are overcrowded and irresponsible breeding is running rampant. All of my animals are rescues, and it will always be that way.
