When I had the opportunity to read Grow Young with Your Dog (learn how you and your canine companion can feel better at any age) I jumped on it. As a sufferer of chronic pain, I figured I could learn something about myself and how to feel better physically, while also getting my dogs involved.
Since Wynston competes in agility, it’s important that I keep his body in good shape. He does, after all, depend on me for good health. Grow Young with Your Dog teaches you about the inner workings of your dogs body, while showing you how to improve their physical state of being.
Author Mary Debono, GCFP, has had her own experiences with a painful back, neck and carpal tunnel syndrome, which encouraged her to start Debono Moves. “Debono Moves is an approach that you can easily use to to help yourself and your dog feel better and move more joyfully…Debono Moves combines the science of neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to overcome injury or disease by forming new neural pathways, with the healing power of love” (Debono, 2).
This book is truly incredible. Debono includes real life experiences of how she has helped dogs with her amazing methods, and relates them back to how you can help yourself and your dog feel better! If you purchase the book, you will get free online access to audio and video of several very helpful exercises. My favorites were the video on hip and shoulder circles (for Wynston’s agility body!) and the audio on easier sitting…because I sit a lot. The videos make it easier to grasp the concept of the exercises and the audio is nice because you can perform the exercises while listening.
Grow Young with Your Dog is an easy read. It’s broken up into chapters, which are then broken down into more specific exercises, body parts or injuries. The pages have a lot of photos, bullet points and resources you can reference. This makes it easy to follow, and you can highlight items that you want to try or come back to!
Perhaps you’re like me – a 26 year old woman who feels like I’m 90. Maybe you suffer from chronic pain, arthritis or muscle injury. Your dog may have hip dysplasia, suffer from severe anxiety or is recovering from a surgery. No matter what your situation is with your dog, you can learn something from Grow Young with Your Dog. It’s also a fantastic way to bond with your dog and get to know them better.
So what are you waiting for?! Pick up Mary Debono’s book and get access to free audio and video so you and your dog can feel better at any age! It’s available in paperback and on Kindle!
Oh and for the record – my back pain has immensely improved over the last week since I’ve been changing my habits! Here’s to a pain free life 🙂

You’ve intrigued me! I love the idea of promoting canine and human health with a focus on strengthening the human-animal bond. I’ll definitely check it out.
