Welcome to Arizona – the land of extreme heat. If you’ve ever been to the Grand Canyon state in the summer months, you know how scorching the days can be. Recently we’ve been experiencing record temperatures around 122°. The average temperature in July is around 110°. Combine that heat with lack of humidity and everything seems to dry out. Humans are prone to dehydration but what about our pets? While our bodies are made up of 55-60% water, our pet’s are made up of 80% water! That’s quite a large difference! Since July is Pet Hydration Awareness Month, let’s talk about how to keep your fur babies drinking that water!
My Fourth Dog Adoption Was A Fail
For months I’ve been wanting to add a fourth dog to our family. Twice I’ve found an American Staffordshire Terrier mix that I wanted to adopt but the same question came up both times: “Do you know if she’s good with cats?” This is what I would ask the shelter volunteers because after all, I have two kitties. And not only that, but my tabby cat Joey is disabled. Although I was heartbroken because I wanted these dogs, I wasn’t willing to risk Joey’s safety. So what happened when I found a fourth small dog to adopt? I risked Joey’s safety.
But I thought my dogs were invincible….!
I’m not sure how it is for human moms, but I know as a dog mom I like to think my dogs are invincible. Like…they could never get lost or get hit by a car or break a leg or have a life threatening anaphylactic reaction. So isn’t it a bitch when we find out that perhaps our animals aren’t invincible? Most of you know that I’m a really overprotective dog mom. I take zero risks when it comes to my animal’s health. If they aren’t feeling well, straight to the vet we go. And such was the case this morning.
Avoid Heartbreak with Lost Pet Prevention Month and a Giveaway!
In July 2013, my cat Edison ran away. Everything about it was my fault and I continue to hold onto the guilt. Although I still cry over Edison, I want to save other pet parents from the heartbreak I go through everyday because of his loss. I share my story of Edison running away in hopes of educating others on how they can keep their pets safe. For Lost Pet Prevention Month, I want to revisit Edison’s story and suggest ways that you can save yourself from every pet parent’s worst nightmare. I’m giving away an ID collar and tags so you can keep your pups and kitties protected at all times!
Dog Mom Life: Bathroom Redesign, Killer Ants and Backyard Bonding
We’ve officially lived in our new house for one week, and it’s been a crazy one. A blur, really. Although I’m trying to enjoy it, Matt and I have been hard at work so we can get everything unpacked and looking nice before he starts his new job on July 18th. We are heading to our CA this coming weekend for a wedding so we’ll be losing time. On top of that, we have to get our old house cleaned up before the end of the month. AHHHH! I’ve been wanting to pull my hair out but it’s been so worth it. So, what’s new with the house? Matt and I got the den and guest bathroom painted, I did four hours of yard work this morning and my kids are settling in nicely!
