We haven’t had another dog stay with us since we adopted McKenzie Rae in November 2015. McKenzie was working through a lot of fear issues for a while so if the opportunity presented itself to watch a dog overnight at our home, we declined. Now that our girl is more versed in the ways of the world and we have a much bigger house, we can once again open our doors to more dogs. When Matt’s friend texted him one evening to see if we could take his Pomeranian, Aina (pronounced “eye-nuh”), for about 24 hours, we briefly discussed it and agreed. Of course we asked if she was good with dogs and cats, and she is. A couple of hours later, this little ball of fluff was walking through my front door and I fell in love.
Aina is a six year old purebred Pomeranian, and she. is. precious. She probably weighs about 4lbs, but don’t let her small size fool you – she is full of spunk and sass. Aina has a mellow and calm demeanor just like my dogs (most of the time), so everyone got along famously. When we did doggie intros, we introduced Wynston first, then Khloee and McKenzie Rae last. We didn’t want to overwhelm Aina with three interested dogs. Within no time, the four dogs were like a pack that has been together forever.
Sure, Aina is cute and all, but her breath is the worst dog breath I’ve ever smelled in my life. She has some serious dental disease going on. I feel bad for her, but I know her parents are taking her in for some teeth work soon. It’s interesting because although Wynston is her age, his teeth are pristine. None of my dogs have gross breath because I take super simple dental precautions to keep their teeth clean and healthy. For the love of everything holy, just give your dogs a dental chew everyday. They will work wonders to help prevent dental problems. Does your dog have bad breath? Consider making these easy DIY mint dog treats.
Despite Aina’s absolutely horrendous breath, she’s still the cutest freaking thing. She followed me throughout the house and slept next to me while I worked. Aina didn’t mind the cats, and the cats didn’t mind her. We played outside, but that was the extent of her being active. Aina wasn’t interested in toys – she seemed most interested in human attention. But she did come running when she heard a treat bag!
I had a very easy 24 hours with Aina. She was truly an angel. I fell in love with her so much, that now I want a Pomeranian of my own! I told Aina’s dad that she could come over for a doggie sleepover anytime! In the meantime, I’ve had my eye out for Pomeranians coming into local shelters 😉

All of your furbabies are so beautiful! That Aina really is a beauty. My neighbor has two poms that she rescued. One is a regular size and the other is a toy . They are both so precious.

Thank you, Linda! Aina is a beauty. I hope we can have her stay with us again.

Poms are such sweet dogs (for the most part)! My uncle had one that went everywhere with him. That dog was such a velcro pup!

I’m so glad all four pups had a great time at the doggie sleepover! I’ve always been interested in Poms, but rarely finds one in shelters or rescues. Which is great for the breed, but sad for me!
