Yes, I am one of THOSE people – I’ve been throwing Wynston birthday parties his entire life. I have absolutely no shame and I get really into it. I love planning the theme, food and decorations. I always invite my closest dog mom friends (and their dogs of course) and we have an absolute blast.Last year Wynston’s birthday party was Disney themed. It was so much fun and I had about 30 people and dogs in my house! It was super fun chaos. The most fun part is always the dogs playing together while the moms drink a mimosa or glass of champagne. It’s like a kid’s birthday party…except way better.
This year I chose a video game theme! I thought it’d be cool and different to decorate with party supplies of video games I had as a kid growing up. Most of my friends were born in the 80s, so I figured it would be most appropriate! The games I’m focusing on are Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong and PacMan.
I like to hold costume contests at the parties and potlucks I throw because everyone gets so creative with it. I’ll have a basket of doggy goodies for the winner. It may be hard to dress a dog as a video game character, so I suggested a retro 80s outfit as well. It’s great to see what people come up with!
For food I decided on Mexican. After all, Wynston IS a Chihuahua. I’m ordering food from my favorite restaurant, On the Border. Enchiladas, tacos, beans, rice, chips and salsa…it’s going to be delicious! I will also have some healthier snacks and a dessert or two as well. I may be the only person who orders restaurant food for her dog’s birthday party but it’s going to be a hit! I make sure I have treats available for the doggies too so they don’t feel left out. Or perhaps I just share my food 😉
You can’t forget goody bags for the attendees! I always do doggy bags (or this year, doggy boxes) for each dog guest in attendance. I chose the yellow ? boxes from the Super Mario games. Does it get any more adorable?! I don’t have them done yet but they’ll include items such as dental chews, treats and a toy.
Wynston turns 4 years old on September 11th and I’m throwing his party on September 12th! I’m not the only one excited – all of my friends are super stoked too! To some, a grand birthday party for a dog may sound a bit outlandish, but for me it’s the norm. Wynston is my son, so I treat him how I’d treat a human kid! Stay tuned for all of the amazing party photos in a couple of weeks!

Now THAT’S how you throw a party! How fun is that?! Are you available on a consulting basis for human birthday parties too? 😉

Ahahaha I’m MUCH worse at planning human parties. After all, I have way more fun with dogs 😉
