I have to say – I’m on cloud nine right now. Seeing my boy happy is the most amazing feeling. And seeing his happiness after we rocked our first ever gamblers course, was priceless.
This weekend we entered an intro trial at Club Doggie. It’s our 2nd trial ever. For today’s course, I really wasn’t nervous. Although I had never run a gamblers course before (besides once in class) I was confident that Wynston would complete the obstacles and gamble sequence with no problems. I was right.
The intro trial is really for beginners. It’s a great way to get course experience, or train with a new dog. For us, it is great for both! Basically on our gamblers, you make up your own course, but have to accrue 18 points in 30 seconds, then complete the gamble sequence. I’m not going to get into the specifics but you can read it on the picture of our course below:
I underestimate Wynston’s speed. We completed the course before our 30 seconds was up, so we took an extra jump, which gave us one extra point. When I heard the buzzer, we went straight into the gamble sequence. It was flawless.
I did make a mistake at the beginning when I wanted Wynston to take the A-frame. I didn’t support the obstacle enough and he ran past it initially. We went back a few steps and he completed it. It did was cost us a few seconds. My fault.
Other than that, it was an amazing run. Wyn was fast, happy and excited.
Well, we got 2nd place!!!!! I didn’t expect to place, but I was hoping for a Q (qualifier), which we got also! I later found out that we were 1 point away from first place! But it doesn’t matter. That was our best trial run so far and I’m so proud of my son.
Tomorrow we run our jumpers course. I will be recapping that run as well! Thanks to Club Doggie for hosting a super fun day one of the trial, and a big thanks to Marya who gave me some much appreciated tips before we ran! My friend Andria and her fiance also came to support me, and Andria took some professional photos! It’s been an incredible journey! We have an indescribable bond – one that I’m not sure I’ll ever have with another dog.
