One of the advantages of today’s technological world is that fact that we can literally keep track of everything. Most of us have a smart phone in our pocket, a tablet in our briefcase or a laptop to work on. Whatever the case, we have unlimited access to almost anything we want. I remember when my brother was just a baby – my parents had a baby monitor for him, which consisted of this small walkie-talkie looking device that gave off a lot of static. Now, in 2016, you just buy a camera and watch the live video from your mobile device! As the pet industry grows, so does our need for such devices. There are a ton of security camera products on the market for pet parents to take advantage of, and I was lucky enough to try the Vimtag® security camera. I know that Khloee has separation anxiety so I’ve always been curious as to what she does when Matt and I are both gone (which is rare, and if we’re gone together it’s for a couple hours worth of errands). Vimtag gives me the opportunity to check on my babies while I’m gone, and I’m giving two lucky readers the chance to win a Vimtag of their own!
The first time I experienced what Vimtag has to offer was when Matt and I went to run a couple of errands. I personally thought that Khloee was going to sit on the stairs the whole time, in what we call “poodle jail.” She likes to sit on the stairs with her head out of the railing and watch out the window. Much to our surprise, when we left, Khloee did not stay on the stairs. In fact, we didn’t see the dogs our entire time out. They were either sunbathing or sleeping. I was SO relieved.
However, I turned on the camera last weekend when Matt was out of town and I took Wynston to my mom’s house. The story was 100% different. Both Khloee and McKenzie Rae sat on the stairs the whole time. It was really heartbreaking. Although it saddened me, I did come to the conclusion that when all three dogs are together, Khloee is totally fine. But when Wynston is gone, all bets are off. Poor poodle 🙁
What does the Vimtag offer?
- Two-way voice built in with mic and speaker (Khloee and Kenzie would look at the camera in total confusion when I spoke to them through the camera)
- Take screenshots of the monitoring, which includes date and time
- Three times digital zoom
- Internal SD card slot (32 GB recommended) for video recording and playback
Advantages of the Vimtag:
- Pet monitoring
- Baby/nanny monitoring
- Senior monitoring
- Business monitoring
- Security while you’re away or on vacation
- Remote live-streaming from a smart phone, tablet or PC app
- Easy to move around to different locations in your home
What do I need for the Vimtag to work correctly?
- Internet access and/or Wi-Fi
- Power outlet for device to plug in
- Device to stream the video
I use the Vimtag app on my smart phone. The app is easy to set up and use. Initially you will have to enter quite a few passwords and such, but it’s for security. I unplug the camera when I’m home because I’m just paranoid about people hacking into my internet and seeing the video or something…
We tried out the Vimtag 361 Basic Cloud IP camera. It comes with mounting capabilities and an Ethernet cord for you to set it up with the internet. If you have Wi-Fi, you won’t need to use the Ethernet cord permanently. The kit comes with a quick start guide and other helpful information.
Even if you aren’t a pet parent, this camera is perfect for anyone! If you want it for basic security, it’d be great. The particular camera that I tried (and am giving away) is an indoor model. If you’re looking for an outdoor camera, check out the Vimtag B1 Outdoor Waterproof device.

I have a little precious but tricky 3lb Yorkie, and I leave him everything he needs when I go out, and he marks once in awhile around my husbands boxing bag and I would like to know when he does this, like is it as soon as I go or later, also how he reacts when I am gone. This would help me to understand what is happening.
Oh and I will be going on a trip which unfortunately I can’t take him for the first time, since He goes pretty much all the time, and I would love to keep up with him everyday I am gone and see how he is with my husband’s brother-in-law whom is sweet as pie, and if he starts acting differently while I am away that long which is 2 weeks (2 Long weeks!!) for me. Sniff 🙁

It would be very reassuring to be able to see and also even talk to Patches and at the same time, to keep a eye on things in our apartment. Sometimes our landlord has to come into the apt. while we are out in order to make repairs so it would be great to see what exactly goes on!
Sharon Gilbert says
I could find out which dog is making the mess in the house while we are gone. They get very upset if we leave them home so the mess begins…but which one is it? We are going to a wedding and would love to find out what they are doing. They will be left at home with my sons coming over to feed, play, and bring their dogs to play with Schooner & Skipper while we are out of town.

As a pet parent, knowing what is happening with my fur kids when I am not around has always fascinated me. The biggest indication came from my youngest. As a 5 month old pup, she ran upstairs and took one of the phone extensions and brought it back to the bottom staircase. 202 minutes of time had elapsed from the time she took it until I got home. I’ve got 3 little Jack Russell Terrors. Pudding in size but demanding in destruction. Wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world.

I would use it to monitor my dog while we are out, however, it would be really handy to put in the family room and monitor my father in law when I have to run an errand. He had a stroke and had to move in with us a year ago and isn’t supposed to be left alone for very long. Especially with the dog inside with him which he has managed to stumble over twice.
