Here’s our trick!
I admit – Wynston is not much of a trick dog. He prefers to lounge around or be active outdoors. However, he does have one trick that I call the ultimate manipulation. All of his Facebook followers love it and he is irresistibly cute. I call it “the crouch,” while others may call it “sit pretty.” Make sure you use lots of treats for positive reinforcement!
- Start your dog in a sitting position, and make sure you have lots of treats handy!
- Take a treat and slowly move it toward your dog’s nose, then move your hand upward (with the treat still in your hand), almost like you are pushing your dog back. This will cause them to lean back and sit in a crouching position.
- If your dog can stand on it’s hind legs, you can also start that way. Then you would slowly move the treat and your hand downward at the dog’s nose, so he goes to a crouch position from a stand.
- If your dog is sitting in the correct position, keep feeding him treats!!! The positive reinforcement will make it fun and rewarding for your dog to learn the trick and repeat it.
Time to enter the giveaway! And remember to enter the other giveaways as well!
Each entry you make in the giveaway goes toward winning the grand prize! Good luck!

That is indeed a very pretty sit. My sis fur The Kid Sage will do,that too for chick-hen
Jodi says
That’s adorable!! Delilah can sit up like that, although she hasn’t yet learned to hold the position. Sampson however cannot. His back end is super weak and with his ACL repair and arthritis it’s not likely he’ll be able to. BUT he does have a really cute begging face and puts it on your leg when he wants something. It’s very effective.
Good job with your trick!!!
Amanda says
Oh my goodness, Wynston has that same begging face that he puts on my leg if the crouch doesn’t work! It’s just evil.
Linda says
cute trick! My dog’s best trick is probably to shake.
Amanda says
That’s a good one! Wynston doesn’t know that one yet!
Tenacious Little Terrier says

Her favorite trick is shake or high five.
Jessica Shipman | Beagles & Bargains says
What a great trick! I’ve been trying to teach it to Luna forever, but I think it’s a little more difficult for her to balance since she is a little top heavy with a larger chest. I hope we get it eventually!
Amanda says
Matt and I joke that Wynston has super strong core muscles because he is always manipulating me in that pose…
Carolyn says
Very good. My dog likes any trick that ends with getting a treat!
Amy A says
That’s a fantastic trick! Nala doesn’t have a favorite trick but she does sit before I even ask I think she reads minds.

Putting his toys away.
Elizabeth Keene says
Adorable sit! 🙂 And what a great prize! My Dewi can sit up like that (he knows the command as “dance”), and he uses it (without being asked) to try and get all sorts of things! His back is so long, too, that it makes him look extra silly. So hard to resist (but I have to or he’d be eating all day)!
Earl Lover says
Your tricks are so cute!
ellie says
kisses!!
Kelsie - It's Dog or Nothing says
SO CUTE! I’ve been working on this with Mauja and Atka, but I think they’re still too young to master it. They have absolutely zero control of their gangly, puppy bodies and topple over every time 😉
Sandy Weinstein says
my oldest does lots of treats, but cant do many anymore. she rolls over, prances, like the high stepping horses, but since she has a bad back and is 14 plus now, i dont ask her to do any now. she could play soccer, kickball, catch frizbees, dance on her hind legs, etc. she was a great trick doggy, now she is just a great older child.
Shelley P says
Diamond’s favorite trick is giving a high ten. She gets so happy when she does it too 🙂
Helga says
My doxie loves to dance on his hind legs.
Ruth (and Layla) says
Layla does not do tricks but knows how to use her smile and tail to get treats from everyone 🙂
