I’ve known my best friend, Tamara, for over 20 years. We did our growing up together. As young girls, we rode horses in a pasture on 200 acres and fed baby cows. We both got cars and first jobs in the same month. But then our lifestyles changed drastically. Tamara chose to be a mom, and I went down a different path. Now although my bestie has five human kids and I choose to have zero, we are absolute best buds. I spend a TON of time with Tam and her kids, and Wynston and I have become a fixture in their home.
Why am I telling you this? Recently I became inspired when I noticed how many products Tamara uses for her newborn and her other kids that can also be helpful for dog moms. I personally believe there are many more similarities between human and dog moms than some people care to realize, and it even comes down to the use of daily items. I’ve compiled a list of human mom products that dog moms will love, and I hope you find it useful!

Human Mom Products That Dog Moms Will Love
Diaper Bag
When my new niece, Lillian Marie, was born, I quickly became obsessed with Tamara’s HaloVa diaper bag. It wasn’t like the bags I remember from 1996 when my baby brother came into this world. This was a snazzy, super trendy backpack that offered endless storage pockets and even a USB charger. I HAD to get one. But then…my bestie surprised me and gave me the diaper bag! It looks like a regular backpack. I love it because I can literally put ALL my stuff in it, including my laptop. The front pocket has it’s own organizers, which I’m using for waste bags, treats and Wynston’s leash. I’m obsessed with this HaloVa diaper bag turned “dog mom bag.”
What I love about the HaloVa diaper bag:
- Available in several colors
- High-quality, water-resistant fabric
- Suitable for any occasion, whether it’s traveling or running errands
- Has insulated pockets
I discovered that an infant rocker would make an excellent small dog bed when Wynston decided to jump in his baby cousin’s. Turns out, this Fisher-Price infant rocker is super cozy, and provides support for pups who like to curl up and sleep. It can sit stationary, or rock. The toy bar is completely removable, or you can leave it on for your curious puppy! The seat cover is removable and washable.
The need for a bottle brush is pretty self-explanatory. While they are made for cleaning baby bottles, bottle brushes can also be used to disinfect your dog’s water bottle just as effectively! (Or your own, of course).
Baby Wipes
Since baby wipes are made to be gentle on delicate skin, you know they will be safe to use on your pup. Baby wipes are a must-have for spot cleaning paws and fur, whether it’s after a trip to the park or a romp on the beach. Baby wipes are generally cheaper than pet-specific wipes.
Baby Bath Tub
Since I don’t have a laundry room sink anymore, I’ve run into a slight inconvenience when it comes to bathing Wynston – my sinks are too small but my bathtubs are difficult to give him a bath in. So what’s a good middle ground? A baby bath tub. I can use it in conjunction with my kitchen sink, or you can put it in a large bathtub. A baby tub will keep your small dog safe and feeling secure during bath time, and you will have an easier time keeping your pup contained if they tend to squirm.
There are a TON of baby bath tubs to choose from, but I like this Munchkin Sit and Soak tub. It’s perfect for a Chihuahua, or other tiny pooch!
Baby Blanket
Baby blankets are soft, gentle, and downright cozy! This one is only $10 from Amazon, and there are an endless amount of colors available!
Diaper Caddy Organizer
Diaper caddies are meant to organize all of a baby’s essentials, but it can stash all of your dog’s items just the same. Fill the diaper caddy with your pup’s bath products, medications, supplements, wipes and any other necessities that you need to store.
Laundry Detergent for Sensitive Skin
I learned from Tamara that there is a specific laundry detergent that is popular among human moms. It’s called Dreft, and it’s made specifically for babies and newborns. The detergent is hypoallergenic, and it would be perfect to wash your dog’s bed, clothes and blankets with if they have allergies or sensitivities.
Car Seat Cover
Car seat covers (or canopies) are used to protect babies from the sun while they are in their car seat. I think this can be a great product for dog moms because you can use it to cover a kennel or your dog’s stroller. It’s a terrific essential to have if your pup is sensitive to the sun, or sometimes needs privacy to relax. It’s an inexpensive, versatile product that can be used in a variety of situations. This car seat cover is only $20, which is way cheaper than a kennel cover!
Port-a-crib
The ever-so-popular Graco Pack ‘n Play can act as a sort of travel kennel if you need one for your small dog. It’s cozy, will keep your pup contained and can be easily stored. The Pack ‘n Play can be transported without hassle because it folds into a compact size and fits in a carrying case. I like the idea of a port-a-crib for small dogs who need a comfortable, safe place to relax. But I definitely don’t recommend this product for pups who like to chew their way out of things…
Activity Mat
Recently I’ve seen some viral videos on Facebook which include adorable puppies playing on activity mats for kids. At first I thought the videos were absolutely precious, then I thought, “There’s actually something brilliant about this.” Play mats are made to be engaging for toddlers, and they can offer the same sort of fun for puppies. Just make sure that the activity mat that you buy is will be safe for your dog, especially if they are a heavy chewer.
For those of you who enjoy taking your dogs to the beach or lake, I highly recommend one of these pop-up beach tents. I fell in love with this shark model from Multifun because it’s just super adorbs. Beach tents are generally great for babies because they offer shade and UV protection. Well, these benefits are just as helpful for dogs! Pop-up tents offer plenty of ventilation and protection for your furry friend when they need a break from the action. You can even use it at the park, in the backyard or while camping.
