Visits to sit on Santa’s lap are no longer only for human children. It’s just as common to take your dog to see Santa now since large retailers like PetSmart and Petco offer the opportunity. )Small pet stores and events in your area may also offer photos with Santa). Although Wynston isn’t a fan of “the big man,” I know how fun it can be to get that precious photo of your pup with him. It’s always best to be prepared for that special moment, so for you I have helpful tips for taking your dog to see Santa Claus.
Tips for Taking Your Dog to See Santa Claus
Bringing your dog to do anything out of the ordinary requires positive reinforcement and patience. Being prepared for some outtakes will ensure you have a fun Santa Claus visit.
Bring Treats
The most important tip for taking your dog to see Santa Claus is bring treats! You’ll want to use them as positive reinforcement for sitting on Santa’s lap. You may also need them (or the crinkle of the bag) to get your dog’s attention for the photo. If your dog isn’t food motivated, bring a special toy instead!
Be Patient
Your dog may be curious about Santa’s long beard and red suit. Give your dog a minute to settle in on Santa’s lap before attempting photos. Be patient. If you start to get frustrated or anxious, your dog will feel your energy.
Just Keep Snapping
When your dog is on Santa’s lap, snap those photos like crazy! There may be a professional photographer taking pictures, but use your phone to take your own also. If you snap away, you’re bound to get some amazing shots!
Sit With Your Dog
Your dog may be more comfortable if you sit with Santa also, and that’s okay! Brush your hair, sit up straight, and smile!
Be Prepared for Outtakes
Sometimes the outtakes make for the cutest photos. Enjoy them. Cherish them. Those are memories you’ll always be able to embrace.
Don’t Force It
I learned years ago that Wynston isn’t Santa’s biggest fan, so I don’t force the issue. If your dog isn’t comfortable, is acting scared, or fights back, do NOT force them to see Santa. It will only cause more fear.
Your Dog is Always on the Nice List
Face it – your dog is on the nice list…always. Make sure you tell Santa that your pup has been EXTRA good this year and they deserve lots of treats and toys 😉
