I admit it. I’m horrible about brushing my dog’s teeth. I give them dental chews daily (and they have really healthy teeth!) but I know I need to get into a better routine of cleaning their teeth. The new Emmi-pet Ultrasound Toothbrush will get me started on that new routine!
Our Impromptu Trip to the Vet
I didn’t go to sleep until 3am today. Honestly, I don’t know how I was up so late. I was working, but I only worked until around 1am and then I just couldn’t fall asleep! I think it might have been the hot tea I drank – I forgot about the caffeine! Anyways, Wynston woke me up at 5:30 this morning (yes, 2.5 hours after I went to sleep) which was VERY unusual. He never wakes me up. My herd of animals followed me downstairs as we prepared for our morning breakfast ritual. Well, Wynston didn’t want to eat…
National Pet First Aid Awareness Month: Becoming Certified in Animal CPR
Last year I became certified in pet CPR and first aid. I am one handy woman to have around in a crisis with your pet, that’s for sure! Pet CPR is pretty similar to human CPR, but it’s extremely helpful to take a class on it. It’s also nice to have the credentials to back up your skills. Anyone can become certified in pet CPR and I highly recommend it.
My Kirby is Back Home
Last week when I drove Kirby to the vet, I knew he wouldn’t be coming home with me. But I also didn’t think about the fact that the next time Kirby would be in the car, he’d be in the form of ashes.
I opted for a private cremation, no questions asked. I even had him cremated with the blankets that I brought him to the vet in. Cost wasn’t an issue, and it actually ended up only costing $80.
Today I got the phone call that Kirby’s ashes were ready to be picked up. Deeeeep breaths. I’ve cried a lot this past week and I really didn’t feel like crying anymore but I went straight out the door to pick up my piggy.
When Matt and I got to the vet’s office, the receptionist opened up a cabinet filled with beautiful gift bags, adorned with name tags and ribbon. As she looked through the bags for my Kirby, I said “Wow, guess I’m not the only one going through this.” It’s probably a daily occurrence for her.
She blessed us with her sympathies and I thanked the ladies for being so wonderful and making this process the easiest it could possibly be.
I didn’t cry. I was relieved and felt peace. My Kirby is back where he belongs…with me.
Reading a Dog’s Body Language
