Most people like routine, and many people thrive on one. I’m one of those people. I don’t follow a strict schedule since I work for myself from home, but I still have a daily routine that I enjoy following. Not only does having a routine help me through my days, but it makes them much less stressful. Did you know that it’s the same for our pets? Cats and dogs prefer a routine just as humans do. In fact, if your pets aren’t on a routine it can cause serious anxiety and stress. Not sure how to go about setting a schedule for your dog or cat? Here’s how to make a schedule for your pet, and why it’s important to do so.
New Year’s Pet Parent Checklist
I’m not into the whole “new year, new me” thing, but as we enter a new year it’s a good time to create a list of to-dos and goals. It’s kinda of nice to have the feeling of starting fresh! 2016 was absolutely insane for me…in a good way! This year I have a plethora of career goals, but let’s take it one day at a time. I have some priorities to get in order, some of which involve my pets. Take a look at this simple New Year’s pet parent checklist that I’ve put together for you.
Introducing a Kitten Into a House Full of Animals
With much enthusiasm and less hesitancy than I planned, I can now say I’m the mom to six animals! I have three dogs and three cats. Recently I adopted a new Siamese kitten named Leila. For months Matt and I had been wanting to add a kitten to the family. Why a kitten and not an adult cat? Well Sadie, our six year old Calico, was having some issues with anxiety from moving into our new home. While her anxiety did get better, Matt and I still felt like having a kitten to look after would help Sadie a lot. She’s a very motherly, nurturing cat. I was finally ready to bring another feline into the home after my loss of Edison in 2013.
Initially I had this idea of how introductions would go once I brought the kitten home. I thought I knew which animals would act certain ways but boy was I wrong. I was so. wrong.
How Many Pets Are “Too Many” Pets?
I almost dread answering the question “how many pets do you have?” For a long time it fluctuated between four and five. Now I’m at six. I have six animals (I prefer to call them my animals instead of pets). Three cats and three dogs. To me, it’s not a big deal at all. But the typical response to my answer is “OH MY GOD you have too many animals!” Um. Not really, actually. There is no clear answer to the question “how many pets are too many pets?” It’s all relative. Let’s go over some factors.
Purina is Inspiring Pet Parents to Live Bigger and Better! #LetsLiveBig
If you are reading this post, I’m sure you’d agree that pets make our lives bigger and better. This year’s Purina Better With Pets Summit once again took place in Brooklyn, NY. The theme was “Living Big.” I walked away from the event feeling motivated, inspired and more educated on how I can nurture the bonds I have with my pets so we can all live a bigger life together. In fact, I was SO inspired that I finally realized what I want to pursue my Master’s degree in – animal nutrition. I have an incredible amount of information that I want to share from the summit. This post will be a recap, and I plan to write more specific posts on topics that left a massive impression on me.
