One of the best decisions I’ve ever made was to become a blogger. While I only intended to blog as a hobby, I have made blogging into a lucrative, full time career. There are many reasons to start blogging. Whether you’re writing about pets or something else, it’s a great way to share a passion of yours with the world. Here are five reasons to become a blogger:
Share a passion: You can really blog about anything you want. I started blogging because I wanted to share my journey as a dog mom with the world. I love writing and bragging about Wynston so what better way to do those things than to write about it?!
Make extra income: Many people never make money by blogging. Some people end up being full time bloggers. I’d say a majority of people make a good amount of extra income through blogging. It really depends on how much time and energy you want to dedicate to blogging, and what your ultimate goals are.
Be part of a community: Through the online pet blogging community, BlogPaws, I have made some of my best friends. I absolutely love being able to fit in and share my animal obsession with others. Members of BlogPaws have inspired, encouraged and motivated me, and I am eternally grateful.
Free stuff: We all love free goodies! As a pet blogger I get a ton of free items all the time. Dog toys, treats, food, grooming supplies…who doesn’t love saving money and trying out new products?? Whatever I don’t use gets donated to my local animal shelter. Pet blogging has also gotten me to national events where I have learned more and networked with brands.
Further your career: Perhaps you’re a cook, photographer or author. Blogging is the perfect extension of the career you may already have! Your blog can help showcase your artwork, culinary decadents or sell your book. Or if you’re like me, you can just make blogging your entire career!
People become bloggers for many different reasons. I have used my blog to share my story, educate others and spread the word about animal rights. Growing up I wanted to be a teacher and a writer. Now I teach people through my writing!

I became a dog blogger in 2015, you’re so right – it’s amazing. The reason I started was to showcase my work so I could finally land freelance writing clients in the dog niche, so I could stop writing about boob jobs and business taxes, and write about dogs instead. Best decisions EVAH. I had no idea how much fun blogging would be. And I absolutely cannot wait for BlogPaws!!

hi Amanda –
I’m a dogblogger and write about my experience fostering dogs for Operation Paws for Homes, an all-breed rescue. I had NO IDEA there was an entire pet blogging community. I’m a writer, so the blogging is a compulsive habit. I know you’re super established and all that, but I’m impressed and curious, so I’d like to nominate you for a Liebster Award. (this is a good and maybe, depending on how you look at it, a bad thing, but I’m hoping you’re game.) Hoping you’ll be game! It also ties in nicely with this post since it’s all about helping other bloggers! Here’s the link: http://www.carawrites.com/my-life-in-paragraphs/guess-what-i-won

Thanks Cara! I actually was nominated for the Liebster Award the past two years as well 🙂 You should most definitely join the BlogPaws online community – the networking you can do is endless!
