Wynston and I visited Las Vegas, Nevada during the summer of the big Covid-19 pandemic. It proved to be an interesting, yet fantastic time to visit!
This is our dog-friendly Flamingo Las Vegas review, specifically written for those traveling with their pets.
Flamingo Las Vegas Review
Room Overview:
- Beautifully renovated.
- Our mini fridge did not work.
- There were no toiletries in the room due to Covid.
- There was no room service or housekeeping due to Covid.
I loved our room at the Flamingo. It was newly renovated and comfortable. We had a fantastic view of the resort pool area.
The bathroom was lovely and large, and the closet had back-lighting. There were lots of outlets, lighting options and seating choices in the room, including a chaise lounge and table with two chairs.
Service
Service throughout the Flamingo was great! Everyone was friendly – from the bartenders to security guards. I also had top notch service at Carlos ‘N Charlie’s, a restaurant located by the resort pool.
Food
The food options seemed scarce on this Las Vegas trip in general. I attribute this to the Strip just opening up for the first time since lock down.
The Flamingo does have a food court, which I did take advantage of, but it closes around 10pm. They also have a massive buffet, but it was closed. Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville is located at the Flamingo, but it was closed to due to Covid when we were visiting.
My favorite meal was from Carlos ‘N Charlies. The Mexican food restaurant is accessible from the casino or resort garden/pool area. While the food was pricey (Las Vegas food is expensive in general), it was worth it! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was unbeatable.
Pet Relief Area
One thing about staying on the Las Vegas strip is the hotels aren’t the quickest to navigate. They are expansive and require signs to get around.
While it did take about 5 minutes to walk from our hotel room to the outdoors, there is a pet relief area and it’s pretty easy to access. The pet relief area is fenced, but small. It’s well-lit at night, and kept clean. I appreciated how easy it was to get to.
Shopping
I thoroughly enjoyed the shopping at the Flamingo Las Vegas. There were fun gift shops with all sorts of goodies for humans of all ages, and I even spotted some pet items! The shopping isn’t upscale like you will find elsewhere, but that’s completely okay with this simple dog mom.
Miscellaneous Notes
Going to Las Vegas? Bring CASH! It’s the one thing I forgot, and I ended up having to pay absolutely outlandish ATM fees – we’re talking $9.99-24.99 just to grab money from an ATM.
Parking was easy. It was free when we visited, but I believe there’s typically a daily fee. We were able to walk from the parking garage into the hotel easily and in a timely manner.
The Flamingo is located in the middle of the strip. It’s the perfect location! Caesar’s Palace and Bellagio are across the street, offering endless shopping, gambling and meal options.
Dogs are allowed to sit next to their humans on the casino floor. Wynston got lots of attention while relaxing in his stroller!
I have stayed at other hotels on the Las Vegas strip, including MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, Luxor, Mandalay Bay and Treasure Island. I’d say the Flamingo is my favorite in terms of location and ease of navigation.
Was it eerie due to the lack of people caused by fear of the pandemic?
Not at all! There were plenty of people drinking, gambling and having a good time! I didn’t find it to be weird at all. For me, a less crowded place is better. Plus, we got amazing photos without a bunch of random Karens in them!
Wynston and I had a blast on our Las Vegas trip. I absolutely recommend Flamingo Las Vegas, and I will stay there again whether it’s with dogs or not!
Have you ever been to Las Vegas with your dog?
