I always have dog treats on me. Training is a daily part of our routine, whether we are at home or out and about. We even train on walks, so I’m always throwing treats in my pocket and have the joy of finding crumbs later!
Here’s a list of treats that I swear by, why I use them and in which situations:
Zukes Z-filets: Zuke’s is a Colorado based company that makes a delicious, natural treat from USA beef or chicken. A portion of each sale also goes to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund. I prefer the Z-filets because they are extremely easy to tear into small pieces for Wynston and Khloee. I can throw a large filet in my pocket and tear it easily as needed at agility class or on a walk. I purchase Zuke’s at Pet Club or PetSmart.
PureBites freeze dried treats: I fell in love with PureBites last year when I found them at Pet Club. The best thing about these treats? They are ONE ingredient – USDAA inspected meat. Of course, they are also made in the USA. I always make sure I have the chicken treat on hand. They are super healthy (since it’s pure chicken with no additives) and easy to tear into smaller pieces. I use these treats when we are training at home.
Nutro crunchy treats: We go through these treats like water in our house. Despite being crunchy, they are extremely easy to break in half and they smell absolutely delicious. We love the apple, banana, blueberry and peanut butter flavors. There are no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Matt prefers these when training with Khloee at home. We buy them at Pet Club.
ProPlan training treats: All of my kids are fueled by ProPlan, and have been for years. I love the ProPlan training treats because like all the others, they are small and easy to break. These have become our go-to treat for the beach!
What brand/type of treats do you use when training with your dog? If we are in a public place (like the mall or Home Depot) or we’re at agility class, I use a high value treat like sausage. I’d love to hear from you!
