Last year (2015) I was nominated for Best New Pet Blog. When the nomination came as a complete shock, Carol of Fidose of Reality encouraged me to get some local media attention. Not only did I take her advice, but I took it to a whole new level. I was on the news, in two newspapers and in a magazine within a month! That Spring was a whirlwind and craziness and excitement, and it was great to have the experience of reaching out to local media. Now that I am speaking at the 2016 BlogPaws conference this year, I once again went on the prowl for more media attention – this time for not just myself but more for the fact that the conference is coming to my home town of Phoenix!
The Ahwatukee Foothills News
Ahwatukee is a small area in the city of Phoenix. I grew up there, and it’s one of the few places I’ve been in Arizona where there’s a true sense of community. The BlogPaws conference is happening at the Sheraton Grand Wild Horse Pass, which is just five minutes outside of Ahwatukee. I’m so proud to be a part of something so big that’s happening where I was raised 🙂
In the May 25, 2016 edition of the Ahwatukee Foothills News, my story starts on the front page and ends with a full spread on page 13.
You can read the full story on the digital edition of the Ahwatukee Foothills News. To go to page 13, you can either use the side arrows to scroll through the paper or type in “13” in the search bar at the bottom of the page when you have the digital edition open.
Here is my newspaper article from Spring 2015.
There are still tickets available for the BlogPaws conference in Phoenix. Buy your ticket before they sell out!

That’s great about your news coverage! I admit I have been kind of shy about contacting the local news.
P.S.: That’s neat that the conference is so close to your home town. My husband and 10 ear old daughter are coming with me and will be looking for fun things to do while I’m at the conference. If you have suggestions, let me know.

I actually shared a post about Arizona dog-friendly attractions last night in the BlogPaws Facebook group! Honestly, there’s stuff to do all over Arizona with the family!

Congrats on being featured again Amanda! I was able to read the first page of the article but am unable to scroll past page 11, it stops running. I’ll try back another time, I’d like to read the whole article. See you next month!

This is so cool. I’m wondering what response you’ve had. Did people you know see the article? Are people still reading newspapers? Did you see increased hits to your blog?
Amanda says
Surprisingly a lot of people read this paper because it’s local, and people who live in the particular area still like to read this specific paper. I saw more of an increase last year when I was on the news. However, I did get some brand opportunities from the newspaper article 🙂
