Did you know that 80% of your pet’s body is water? Let’s put this into perspective – human bodies are made of 55-60% water. Think you’re feeling thirsty and dehydrated this summer? Well your pet is feeling it also, and more so if they aren’t drinking enough water! PetSafe spreads awareness about pet hydration during the month of July, and it’s so important because animals are at risk for heat stroke and can suffer from dehydration just as we can.
Pet Hydration Month
Drinking plenty of water can have several benefits for your pet:
- Promotes healthy kidney function.
- Prevents UTI’s and urinary disease.
- If your pet is sick or injured, drinking a lot of water can aid in the healing process.
- Regulates temperature, energy and metabolism.
Experts suggest to have multiple water bowls throughout your home to encourage your animals to drink more. It makes sense right? How many times have you decided to not get something to drink from the kitchen because you’re too lazy to go downstairs or to the other side of the house? Guilty. If your dog or cat has continuous access to water, they are more likely to drink.

Many years ago I came across Drinkwell® pet fountains. I bought one for my dog and three cats. I was SO impressed. It was amazing and my cats especially loved it. They do say that cats prefer running water, which makes sense because running water is much more fresh than stagnant water. Well years later, I still believe in Drinkwell pet fountains and currently I have the exact same fountain I did several years ago – the Drinkwell Platinum. What I love most about the fountains is that the water is filtered, so I know my kids are drinking delicious water!

I used to have two large water bowls in my kitchen and one upstairs in our bedroom. I recently replaced the downstairs water bowls with the Drinkwell Pagoda Fountain and the upstairs bowl with the Drinkwell Platinum. Guess what I’ve noticed since setting up the fountains – my cats and dogs are drinking a lot more. Sometimes I catch Wynston sitting downstairs in the kitchen next to the fountain and he’ll stare at it, then drink from the stream, stare at it and drink from the top. It’s the funniest thing but it makes me so happy because I know my babies are getting plenty of clean water. I even saw Sadie sitting at the fountain one day, slowly drinking. Wynston sat behind her for a good three minutes waiting his turn, even though he could have been drinking at the same time. He wants it to himself!
Since I love these pet fountains so much, I want my readers to have a chance at owning one as well! I’m giving away TWO Drinkwell 360 multi-pet stainless steel fountains.
