Life has been crazy lately…and not necessarily in a good way. I feel so behind on everything. I knew things would get hectic around this time because my best friend Andria gets married on April 2nd and I’m one of her bridesmaids. But of course, Easter and family health problems all fell on top of me within the past couple of weeks. Although my Easter weekend was nuts, it was a lot of fun!
I’ve known Andria for too long 😉 I always joke that I’m surprised I still love her after all of these years! We went to middle and high school together, putting our friendship at about 17 years long thus far. I am incredibly honored to be one of the bridesmaids in her wedding, which is happening this Saturday. We have a crazy week ahead – rehearsal, nail appointment, rehearsal dinner, then the big day! This past weekend Andria had bridal shower and bachelorette gig to begin the festivities. They were both absolutely fantastic and I really can’t believe that my very best friend is going to be a wife!!
Sunday was Easter. Luckily I slept in, then McKenzie, Khloee and Wynston got to dive head first into their Easter baskets! It’s always so much fun to watch the dogs hunt for Easter eggs and enjoy their new toys. The pro Easter egg hunter?! Khloee. Basically she found all of the Easter eggs, brought them to one spot and opened them all. McKenzie Rae couldn’t quite figure it out. Matt and I tried to show her that there were treats inside, but she didn’t seem to care.
Wynston is normally pretty good at the whole Easter egg concept. This year, however, I think that the plastic eggs I bought were too tough for him to open with his tiny mouth. As he found some eggs around the house, I would open them for him. Wynston’s favorite part of the morning? The toys! He finally got his pink Peep toy, and stole his sister’s toys in the meantime.
Around 5pm on Easter, Matt and I took Khloee and Wynston over to my mom’s house. We had to leave McKenzie Rae home because my sister Megan was going to be there with her dogs and McKenzie is having some dominance and aggression issues. Holidays are pretty casual around here nowadays because my brother is overseas with the Army and my sister Kim lives in NYC.
For dinner we grilled and enjoyed the dogs running around playing. It was a really nice relaxing evening. However, this Easter was a bit different than the past. Two weeks ago, my step dad, David, was diagnosed with a rare case of cancer. It’s been very terribly emotional, and that’s why I’m so exhausted. It’s been extremely taxing to deal with all of the bad news, while trying to stay strong for my mom. We’re all remaining positive and I’ve been helping out in any way I can. My stepdad and mom were in good spirits on Sunday, so that was the best part of my day. David even got a huge box of doggy costumes from a garage sale, so we played dress up! Khloee was okay with it since she was getting lots of treats.
Like I said earlier in the post, life has been hectic lately and now you know why. It’s not something I’ve been talking about, but since my readers are some of my biggest supporters, I figured it was fair to let you know why I’ve been fairly absent. I even feel like my dogs are getting the shaft because my mind has just been somewhere else. It’s difficult to not get down on myself but I’m blessed to have Matt in my corner helping me with everything.
Last night I slept for 12 hours. Twelve. I hope that by the end of the week I’m nice and rested for Andria’s wedding! I have two appointments in the next couple days so I’m glad I got a lot of sleep last night. I’m not sure when things will slow down, as Matt and I have our engagement photos next week and David starts chemotherapy. But that’s life and I’m doing the best I can.
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!
