Recipe: Homemade Banana Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Prep time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1 cup flour (whole wheat preferably)
- ¼ cup water
- dog bone cookies cutters
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- In a large bowl, mash up the bananas until they are soft enough to mix.
- Add the peanut butter, flour and water.
- Mix until the dough forms. If the banana or dough is sticky, add more flour as needed.
- Roll out the dough and cut into shapes!
- Bake for 15-20 minutes on a non-greased cookie sheet. Bake longer for a harder treat.
- Give your dog the freshly baked banana peanut butter dog treats (wait for them to cool a bit), and watch them enjoy!
*Note: If your dough is sticky, add flour as needed. If your dough isn’t sticky enough, add more water.*
Refrigerate the treats that your dogs don’t eat right away 😉 Enjoy the homemade banana peanut butter dog treats!

I’m so glad you found the recipe Cathy! Your boys will love them! They keep for about two weeks in the refrigerator 🙂 Enjoy!
Hi,
Was wondering if humans can eat it too? 😛
thanks.
Hahaha absolutely! It’s all human ingredients!
Hi Amanda, just to let you know that I love your recipe, I added a pinch of cinnamon for extra flavor, my dog love them both. Just wanted to let you know in case you would like to try it.
Julie
That’s a great idea Julie! Thanks so much! I’m going to try that – I bet my dogs will love it 🙂
About how many treats does this recipe make?
It depends on the size you make. My treats are about 2 inches long, and the recipe makes about 2 dozen.
My Doberman , Honey loves these. I used small cookies cutters and made about 5 dozen
I’m so excited to hear that!!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Can I make balls instead of cutting out the dough with cutters?
Yes you can! You may need to bake them a few minutes longer simple because of the thickness.
I made these for my dog last night. She absolutely loves them! I used oat flour and not sure if that makes a big difference for my pup but I found the combination to be tasty. When I did a taste test as to if my dog would pick these over the store bought ones she picked these each time. Thanks so much!
My only question is where did you get your dog bone cookie cutters?
Thanks again for the great recipe!
Hi Jessy! I’m SO happy to hear that your dog enjoyed these treats! The link I shared in the post (with the list of ingredients) will take you directly to an Amazon link to purchase the cookie cutters. Mine are from a locally owned boutique that closed down last year, but the cookie cutters on Amazon are the exact same ones!
hello im excited to try this recipe but i just have one question when i was going into different type of recipe they all had eggs in them. so my question is can i add egg to the recipie
Yes you can add egg. I’d suggest adding only one 🙂
This is a great recipe! My dog watched me make them the entire time and love them in the end! Thx for this awesome recipe!!
So glad to hear that!! xoxo
I volunteer at our local Humane Society; the dogs love them! Just wondering; can they be frozen? Thanks.
That’s wonderful, Jan! Yes they can be frozen! xoxo
I am interested in making these for my pup and using them in his training class, if taken out of the refridgerator will they melt and become sticky after 45 minutes of training class?
Hi Brianna! They will not. What you may want to do is freeze them, and then take them to class 🙂 Just don’t leave them out for several hours at a time.
Do you have any pumpkin dog treats?
Of course! Here’s my entire list of DIY dog treat recipes, including three that include pumpkin. https://www.dogmomdays.com/recipes-2/
I tried the recipe and found it extremely sticky. And greasy. I added extra wheat flour like you suggested but that didn’t seem to help. My bananas were medium size. Could that have been the reason? Any suggestions would be welcomed. I want to try them again with maybe 2 small bananas? I’ll tweak the recipe and let you know. Thanks for the recipe, my doggies are waiting by the stove as I type! Lol!
Hi Sylvia! You could try adding one egg or some coconut oil to help with the stickiness. I’m not sure where he greasiness would come from, however. You could also add just a tiny bit more water. But I’d start with adding one egg.
mine are very sticky also, even after adding extra flour. i wrapped dough in wax paper and am gonna refrigerate for an hour..see how that goes
dee
Thank you so much I make these for my 2 jack russells they love them I make them for my friends dogs and they love them to .
hi, i was wondering if i could use regular flour.
Regular flour will work in this recipe.
Great recipe. I always have ripe bananas in the freezer instead of throwing them out. I take a couple out and microwave them and peel them. The bananas almost pour into the mixing bowl. I don’t have to add water. My dog loves these treats and they are so economical. Thanks!
Can I use any kind of peanut butter? I’m super excited to make these!
As long as it doesn’t have xylitol, or any other toxic ingredients!
My dog loves these!!! Thanks for sharing this recipe. Do they have to be refrigerated?
Hi Ashley! They do need to be refrigerated within a day or so of making them due to the banana.
So exited to make these for my doggie rona
Yay!
Was anyone’s batter very sticky, not anything I was able to shape. I added and added the flour. Added so much flour. I couldn’t taste banana or peanut butter, only flour. My dog does like them. Maybe he can taste more than me.
Thank you
