Last week I lost my job. Crappy, right?! Meh, not really. Lack of training sure does make a job difficult! I almost have a sense of relief, and now I can focus on my blog again! I’m going to enjoy my time by going on more adventures with Wynston. To celebrate life, I decided to head up north to Sedona, AZ for a couple days to take advantage of the cooler temperatures. On the IHG website (I always stay at IHG hotels) I found the Kimpton Amara Resort & Spa in Sedona. What got me was their pet policy: “At every Kimpton boutique hotel, we invite you to bring your furry, feathery or scaly family member — no matter their size, weight, or breed, all at no extra charge. If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in.” Incredible, right?! I booked a room and started on our 2.5 hour drive a couple days later. Well, let me tell you – the resort did not disappoint. In fact, I received the best service EVER, and I travel a lot…
About the Amara Resort & Spa
The Amara is located in the heart of Sedona. With amazing views and walking access to stores and restaurants, this resort is hidden down a hill in the midst Sedona’s beauty. There is a spa at the Amara, a beautiful pool area and the SaltRock restaurant. Everything about the resort was perfect for Wynston and I. I would describe the resort as tranquil, contemporary and inspiring.
Our Stay
The first thing I noticed upon arrival to the resort was our greeting from the valet. Valet parking is complimentary, and the staff member who welcomed us, Brian, was very friendly and helpful. The check-in process was quick and flawless (thanks Julie). There was even a sign at the front entrance welcoming Wynston! I knew our stay was going to be remarkable from the time we arrived.
Upon check-in were offered a pet bed and bowls for our room, and I took advantage. The items were delivered to our room, which was luxurious and spacious. We were lucky enough to stay in a courtyard room that had access to a private grass area. It was so convenient because I was able to step out our patio door right into the grass. It made potty time for Wynston so easy! We also had a view of Oak Creek. Our room location was perfect. I appreciated them giving us a ground floor room with outdoor access! Other room amenities include a minibar, fluffy robes, a yoga mat, internet and small appliances, like a hairdryer (which I used and liked).
Wynston and I enjoyed our first meal at the SaltRock Southwest Kitchen, which is located on the resort grounds. It was a hop, skip and a jump away from our room, adding to the convenience of everything. The views were spectacular, and so was the food. Wynston and I shared the carne asada tacos. Our server was Juan, and he made our lunch extra special. He gave me some hiking recommendations, and he stayed up on my Coke refills 🙂 He also brought Wynston a bowl of ice water. I ended up leaving Juan a generous tip because I SO appreciated his kindness.
The next morning, I grabbed some delicious coffee from the resort lobby and ordered room service from the SaltRock. Our food was delivered within 20 minutes, and the server who brought the food was also super friendly! Literally every staff member I came in contact with was personable. It made a big difference! Our breakfast was also delightful. The best part? They brought a piece of extra special bacon for my boy!
After breakfast, Wynston and I hit the path down to Oak Creek. It was peaceful, quiet and great for Wynston and I. We took some extraordinary photos and enjoyed the serenity. I liked that the resort was right next to stores and restaurants, but also next to an area where you could experience nature away from people. You have the best of both worlds within a short walking distance.
Although our stay at the Amara Resort & Spa was a short one, it was unforgettable. I would suggest this resort to anyone traveling to Sedona, especially if you have pets! You can’t beat the service, food, amenities and views.

No more than 2 dogs per room are allowed. Pet owners will be asked to fill out a waiver accepting responsibility for any damage or cleaning charges that may occur while at the hote”
