Lake Nasworthy is a little gem tucked away on the outskirts of sunny San Angelo, TX. It’s not a “tourist attraction” by any means, but San Angelo is hardly a popular vacation destination as it is. The city could be considered a “military town,” with Goodfellow Air Force Base at the center. Having a population of only 100,000 people, San Angelo boasts local beauty and culture…and not much else. However if you find yourself in the area, I personally think Lake Nasworthy is a great spot to visit. It’s dog-friendly, offers camping areas, and is a nice spot for fishing. At the lake you will find Goodfellow AFC Recreation Camp where you can rent boats, kayaks and cabins. If you’re looking for something to do, you can make a fun day trip out of it with your pup!
Kayaking With Dogs: Intex Challenger K1 Kayak Review
After just one month of enjoying our new hobby, I bought our very first kayak! I purchased an Intex Challenger K1 kayak after it was recommended by several seasoned kayakers. I read reviews, did my research and made my final purchase from Walmart.com (as the price was cheapest there). One day after receiving our sweet boat, Wynston and I took it out on the water for a spin! My theme as of late has been kayaking with dogs, so here is our Intex Challenger K1 kayak review.
Beginner Tips for Kayaking With Dogs
I went kayaking with Wynston for my first time on August 9, 2018. I literally had no idea what I was doing. I did zero research before Wynston and I sat in a kayak and were shoved into the lake by a dock attendant. I learned as I went and was prepared with what I thought I would need. Turns out, I didn’t do too badly! It was quite an incredible first experience and it prepared me even more for the next outing! Kayaking with a dog is different than going out alone. If you’re new to kayaking with your dog, take my word for it – it’s more fun and relaxing than stressful. To get you started here are some beginner tips for kayaking with dogs.
Kayaking With Dogs at Lake Pleasant, Arizona
I’ve been living in Arizona for 20 years. I feel like I’ve enjoyed a majority of what the Grand Canyon State has to offer, but up until recently I had never been to the “local” lake in the greater Phoenix area – Lake Pleasant. Lake Pleasant is located in Peoria, AZ and it’s known for being “the party lake.” I suppose this is one of the reasons I hadn’t checked it out. Unlike the Midwest, not many people own boats in the desert, and it’s not exactly a quick drive to get to water. However, I was dying to get back out on the lake for kayaking after Wynston and I had a blast in Payson kayaking for the first time. My best friend and I decided to check out Lake Pleasant with our dogs since it’s one of the closest lakes around (about an hour drive).
Wynston’s First Kayaking Adventure!
In the last week Wynston has gone boating and kayaking for the first time! My mom and I rented a paddle boat on a whim in Payson, and that’s where I found out that I can rent a kayak also! As I discussed in the post about Wynston’s boating adventure, I’ve been really wanting to get out and discover more of what the world has to offer Wyn and I. So today we drove up to Payson to rent a kayak. And let me tell you – it’s my new favorite activity!
