Typically Matt and I like to go to California a few times a year. We have a second home in La Verne, which is in East LA County, about 30 minutes from Disneyland and Huntington Beach. The drive is an easy six hours from our Arizona house. We love to pack up the dogs for relaxing trips, and that’s what we planned to do this past weekend. We made it to California safely, but plans took a quick, unexpected turn a day after we got into town.
Our Road Trip to California – May 2016
Many of you know that Matt and I have a second home located in La Verne, CA. We like to go there to relax, hit up the beach and enjoy the small town feel that La Verne offers. We hadn’t been to the house since October 2015. Since then we’ve rescued McKenzie Rae and bought a more suitable SUV for our growing doggy family. We also hadn’t seen Matt’s grandma since we got engaged. Her house is on our way to La Verne so we decided it’d be a good opportunity to drop in on her. This trip was McKenzie’s first road trip and it was a success.
The Dog Friendly Monument Peak Loop Trail in Payson, AZ
So, let’s recap. January has been flippin’ nuts. My brother came home on leave from the Army, Matt and I got engaged, we booked our wedding venue, I attended the bridal expo and bought my dress, I had some dental work done, we bought a new SUV and I announced my BlogPaws Ambassador & Speaker news. After an insanely crazy last week of January, I decided I deserved a day of fun! Since Matt and I just bought a brand new Subaru Forester, we decided to head up north to Payson, AZ for a day of hiking with the pups! Our destination: Monument Peak Loop Trail.
Preparing for Your Day at the Dog Beach
We’re going to the beach! Yay! I love the beach…but who doesn’t?! Matt and I drive to California several times a year since we have a house there, but we only visit the beach a couple of times each year. In February 2014 we took Wynston to the beach for the first time. We first took Khloee in 2015, and now it’s McKenzie Rae’s turn! Now that I know what to expect and how to prepare, I’ve put together a list of items that I think are necessary for a beach trip with your dogs.
Traveling with Dogs: Airplane Rides and Hotel Stays!
Last week, Wynston flew on an airplane and stayed in a hotel for the first time ever. I was nervous and excited for the experience, especially since I was SO looking forward to the trip. We flew across the country to attend the BlogPaws conference in Nashville, TN. Luckily I had my friend with me so I knew what to expect in the airport. Now I want to share my experiences with anyone who is looking to travel on an airplane or stay in a hotel with dogs!
