The Results Are In: McKenzie Rae’s Breeds Are…

McKenzie Rae's DNA test results are in!

Drum roll please!

And McKenzie Rae’s breeds are…

McKenzie Rae's DNA test results are in!

Yes, you’re seeing that correctly. Using the Wisdom Panel canine DNA test kit, we found out that my beautiful girl is a Chihuahua (duh), Lab (okay!) and a Samoyed (wait, what?!). Now before you go thinking that it’s absolutely nuts, it’s not.  Check out her tree.

Let’s break down it down.  Clearly, McKenzie Rae is not white and fluffy like a Samoyed.  However, one of her grandparents was/is a Lab/Samoyed mix.  That mix, is mixed with something else, which is unknown.  So her parents are a Lab/Samoyed/unknown mix and a Chihuahua/unknown mix.  Those unknown breeds could in fact be what all of you guessed – Whippet, Greyhound, Basenji, German Shepherd…

There was not enough DNA to identify those unknown breeds, so it will always be a mystery.  With that being said, McKenzie Rae could be five breeds or more!  That completely makes sense because she is like no dog I’ve ever seen before!

The Wisdom Panel canine DNA test is so cool because they gave us the personalized ancestry tree as well as information about all of the breeds – physical and mental traits.  McKenzie Rae’s personality fits that of a Chihuahua, Lab AND Samoyed, so that’s really no surprise.  Matt and I think that she mostly exhibits traits of a Labrador Retriever because she’s SUPER loving and always picks up things in her mouth.  If it’s in her way, she’ll pick it up and drop it.

McKenzie Rae's DNA test results are in!I’m pleased with the experience of using the Wisdom Panel DNA test kit.  When I sent in the DNA swabs, the lab received them within a few days.  It only took about a week after that to receive the results!  The account you set up on the Wisdom Panel website shows that status of the test as it goes through each phase.  It was very exciting to see the “McKenzie Rae’s results are in!” notice.  I was shaking with suspense!

After a super fun “guess McKenzie Rae’s breeds” giveaway contest, three people guessed Chihuahua/Lab mix.  The winner is:

Trisha McKee! Congratulations!

The winner has 48 hours to come forward to claim her prize.  Thank you to everyone who participated.  I would definitely use the Wisdom Panel to DNA test another dog in a heartbeat!

So what do you all think after seeing McKenzie’s tree??  Matt and I are calling her “our little Lab” now because we think it’s just so cool!

Wow, I would not have guessed lab would be such a large part of her DNA! I think that whole Wisdom Panel report is so cool. I didn’t realize it would go into so much detail or multiple generations!

I knew the test was the most comprehensive on the market but wow! I’m so glad I got to see it for myself. I kinda of want to do one on Khloee. Although I know she’s Maltese/Poodle, I’d love to see her entire lineage!
