Spring is a great time to organize and clean up your home as you get ready for the summer. Whether you have one dog or an army of animals roaming around your house, chances are you could stand to do a bit of deep cleaning.
In this article I bring you spring cleaning tips for dog moms, with an emphasis on pet care and organization related chores.
Spring Cleaning Tips for Dog Moms
Organize your pet care essentials.
Do you have a cabinet or storage closet full of items like treats, waste bags, vitamins, medications and other care products for your dog? Time to go through it all!
Toss expired treats or donate uneaten food to your local animal rescue, and throw away any old medication. Organize your items in neat storage bins or use a cute shelving unit to separate your pup’s necessities.
Wipe everything down.
Disinfect your counter tops and dust your furniture. A cleaner home means a healthier family, and that includes our pets (obviously)!
Donate old toys.
Does your dog have two boxes full of toys but hardly plays with any of them? Donate gently used dog toys to your local rescue or even Goodwill. Throw away any ripped up or half-eaten toys that your dog no longer plays with.

Deep clean bowls and pet fountains.
If it’s been a while since the last time you deep cleaned your dog’s food and water dishes, now’s the time to do it! If you have a pet fountain, change the filter and give it a nice scrub.
Wash your dog’s beds and blankets.
Put all your dog’s beds and blankets in the wash for a deep cleaning cycle. Not only will your furry friend love it, but it’ll get rid of dander, dead hair and any other bacteria that’s been lingering around your dog’s cozy spaces.
Vacuum and mop.
Vacuum AND mop. This spring cleaning chore sounds terrible, but you’ll be so happy you did it! So open those windows, and give your floors a bath. You and your dog will breathe much easier afterwards.
Organize your dog’s accessories.
If you have an abundance of leashes, collars and clothes for your dog, perhaps they need to be organized. Donate items you don’t use anymore. Consider one of these ideas to recycle old pet apparel and other items.
Clean out your car.
If you’re like me, your dog goes everywhere in the car with you. But if you ARE like me, then your car is also full of your dog’s hair and essentials. Clean out your car and you will have so much more fun on your next adventure. And don’t forget to snag a new dog seat cover from 4Knines!
Give your dog a bath.
Since you’re tidying up your home, it’s time to give your dog a bath! Cleanse them of dead hair and flakey skin, and give them a lovely moisturizing shampoo massage. Your dog will be ready to snuggle with you in their freshly washed blankets.
Our favorite dog shampoo is certified organic 4-Legger.
Clean up your dog’s outdoor space.
Scoop your poop. (Or hire someone to do it for you – we love Poodini here in AZ). Hose down your back porch and clean up your dog’s sunbathing area. Your dog will enjoy a clean outdoor space as much as you do.
Update your pet’s information.
If you have some down time, use it to get all of your dog’s identification up to date. This includes their ID tags, microchip and state license renewal if necessary. You may also want to schedule a yearly wellness check for your dog.
What kind of spring cleaning do you enjoy doing? I love purging my home of unnecessary items and truly deep cleaning everything. I always feel so much better!
