Black cats are often the target of cruel practices and rituals on Halloween. It’s critical to their safety that you keep them indoors on days leading up to and including Halloween.
To avoid a truly nightmarish Halloween, in this post we’re talking about how to keep your black cat safe on Halloween. Use this helpful insight to keep your feline friend safe and happy on All Hallow’s Eve.
How to Keep Your Black Cat Safe on Halloween
We don’t need any broken hearts this Halloween, so check out these tips to keep your black cat safe.
Keep Your Cat Indoors
Even if you have an indoor/outdoor cat, keep them inside on Halloween and during the surrounding days. Not only are outdoor cats susceptible to intense cruel practices, but black cats are even more at risk for satanic rituals and other absurd activities.
Create a Barrier for Trick-or-Treaters
If you get trick-or-treaters at your home, be sure that your kitty can’t escape out the front door when it opens. The doorbell will probably be consistently ringing, with the door swinging open frequently over the course of a couple hours.
It’s easy for cats to slither out of doors and other small spaces if they are frightened, so creating a barrier between the front door and your cat’s safe space is highly recommended.
Make a Safe Space for Your Pets
Cats and dogs will both appreciate a safe, quiet place where they can retreat among the commotion on Halloween. Keep them contained in a room with the TV on or soft music playing. Be sure your cat or dog has their favorite blankets, toys and bed!
You can also invest in treat puzzles and interactive toys to keep your kitty occupied and stimulated. One-on-one play time before the trick-or-treaters arrive will be helpful, too.
Update ID and Microchip Info
If you haven’t updated your cat’s ID tag or microchip information lately, now’s the time! Just in case for some reason your cat gets out or lost, they will have the latest info on them to assist in a flawless return home. And even if your cat doesn’t typically wear a collar, it may be a good idea for Halloween night.
Hide the Candy
You definitely don’t need to wrack up vet bills this fall season, so put the Halloween candy away where your cat can’t get to it. Both cats and dogs can be curious when it comes to candy, but ingesting it can have deadly consequences for our pets.
Be Careful With Decorations
We all know cats are curious, especially when it comes to decorations! Be careful with your Halloween decorations, and your kitty could get tangled or easily hurt. Lights can even be risky if your black cat likes to chew!
Black cats sometimes go missing on Halloween for unspeakable reasons. To avoid tragedy, start by keeping your cat indoors. Then, consider snuggling with your kitty on the couch (if your cat will allow you to…) and put on a fun movie like Hocus Pocus! You can’t beat the black cat role of Thackery Binx.
