It’s been 6 months since my cats passed away, and the grief was almost unbearable at times. They always say the hardest part of pet ownership is losing them. That’s an understatement.
I was raised with cats, so believe it or not, I have always gravitated toward cats. Losing my babies made me realize how much I need a cat in my life. Our feline friends own a piece of my heart.
I went to my favorite Arizona shelter when I felt “ready” – Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) to look for a new cat. Summer was kitten season, and I knew I wanted a kitten for a few reasons.
I’ve adopted adult cats before, and I LOVE them. But this time I wanted a kitten because I plan to harness train, and travel with our kitty! So yes – to answer the burning question – I do plan to make our new girl an adventure kitten.
While at home, Mailee will be an indoor only cat.
I also had my mind made up that I wanted a black cat. I’ve always wanted one, and they are “less-adoptable.”
Allow me to introduce Mailee (pronounced May-lee), our newest addition! Mailee came from a litter of black kittens, and she was the last one. She had been at AAWL for a couple months.
Mailee is almost 6 months old. She’s tiny, weighing in at 3lbs. Mailee had some scabbing on her ears and paws, but it’s already improving being in our home!
Mailee loves people. She’s extremely relaxed, and not much seems to frighten her. She’s done amazingly with Wynston and Penny, although Penny couldn’t care less, haha!
Wynston has always loved cats, as he was raised around them, and he was beside himself with excitement when Mailee came home.
My heart feels full again with little miss Mailee in my life. I couldn’t even sleep the first night she was home because I was so over the moon with happiness.
Please join me in welcoming Mailee to the Dog Mom Days family, and follow her on Instagram at Maileethecat!
