When I heard about Open Farm dog food, I thought to myself “Now THIS is a food I’m interested in.” What caught my attention was the “healthy food that is ethically raised and sourced” part. We all know that most pet food companies can’t say the same, so I definitely wanted to give this brand a try.
Open Farm is a family-run business. They get their ingredients from local farmers who respect the land they live on and treat animals with equal respect. The ENTIRE food-to-bowl supply chain is audited and certified by third-party organizations specializing in humane animal care and sustainable farming practices. Open Farm meat and poultry is 100% certified by the Humane Farm Animal Care Program.
Wynston and Khloee had a chance to try the three foods that Open Farm offers, which are all grain free. The recipes include homestead chicken and turkey, catch of the day whitefish and green lentil and farmer’s market pork and root vegetable. No surprise here – Khloee and Wynston loved every recipe!
As a dog mom, it means a lot to me when a company, especially a pet food company, cares about animal welfare and sustainability.
You’ll notice that the main ingredients on each recipe is humanely farmed chicken, turkey or pork, or ocean caught whitefish. You won’t see grains, byproducts or corn. But you will notice that the recipes include healthy ingredients such as coconut oil and fresh vegetables.
What I like about Open Farm dog food:
- Their standards. You have to appreciate a pet food company that respects the welfare of all animals AND our Earth, by putting sustainable practices in place.
- The size of the kibble was perfect for Khloee and Wynston. It is small enough for their tiny mouths so they didn’t have a problem crunching on it.
- The first ingredients are humanely farmed meat or fish.
- The food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages.
- They make a food that is not only good for our pets but also does some good for family farms, farm animals and the environment.
If you’re looking for a healthy, humanely made, grain free food, Open Farm is the perfect option for you. What’s better than supporting a company that cares about animal welfare and protects the environment in the process? On the website you can find a local retailer that sells Open Farm near you.

Hello from a fellow Blog Paws Community member!
I have just purchased this food for my pup Penny (you can read more about her on my blog) who has serious gastrointestinal issues. Short end of the story is we are getting pretty tired of cooking 7 chickens and 20lbs of potatoes per week for her. I am so hopeful that this high quality food is going to do the trick! It will save us so much time, effort and money. Thanks for your review, it was very helpful. Fingers crossed!

Hi there! Welcome to the wonderful world of pet parenthood! There are MANY fruits and vegetables that are great for dogs. Some are kale, spinach, carrots, apples, blueberries and peaches. Make sure you consult your veterinarian if you have specific questions but I give my dogs everything I just listed. They are very healthy and enjoy the yummy treats!

I’ve been surfing online greater than 3 hours today, yet I by no
means discovered any fascinating article like yours.
It’s beautiful price sufficient for me. Personally, if all
web owners and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the internet shall be
much more helpful than ever before.

I just got the new puppy, and she is 3 month old, I notice they don’t have puppy food, is it too big bite for a puppy?
Amanda says
The bites are not to small for a puppy in my opinion. But I would recommend looking for a brand that offers a puppy food. Foods specifically for puppies have different nutrients that allow for proper growth. You may want to ask your vet what’s best!

Pets are an extremely important part of our life and I can’t even begin to imagine our family’s lives without our loveable and floppy Basset Hounds, Fred and Lucy. They bring all of us so much joy and comfort, and I know we are fortunate to have them. Unfortunately, there are so many pets and animals who aren’t as fortunate as Fred and Lucy to be part of a loving family like ours.

Is it made in the states? Or Canada? All the chemicals, dyes, preservatives, that are in dog foods made in USA freak me out. So I try to aim for something locally made in Canada. With out BHA’s, BHT’s, by products, ethoxyquin, propylene glycol and few carbohydrates. This open farm sounds amazing. Any good dog foods to me, also mean no recalls.

My 3 year old male chocolate lab started drooling excessively and licking everything in sight during the months he ate two 24lb bags of the Turkey and Chicken dry food.
I put him back on Fromm and he has stopped drooling and licking.
Why did this happen with your Open Table food?
Amanda says
Hi Pat! I am just a blogger who wrote a review. I am not associated with Open Farm Dog Food. I’d suggest getting in touch with the company. Have a great day!

My two dogs have been on OPEN FARM TURKEY/CHICKEN for a couple of years and they both love it. The size of the kibbles are great for a 20 or 40 pounder!
The only concern I have is the possibility of the “junkier” pet companies buying out OPEN FARM and turning it into another junky pet food, which happens more often than one might think.
