My dogs are included in all of my life’s celebrations. In the category of celebrations is, of course, Thanksgiving! With this delicious holiday right around the corner, I want to share some ways in which you can include your dogs on Thanksgiving Day!
How to Include Your Dog in Thanksgiving
Watch the dog show: I admit that one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving Day is watching the National Dog Show! Cuddle up with your pups and watch all of the beautiful dogs strut their stuff. It’s always fun to daydream about showing dogs (which I’ll probably never do because I believe in spay/neuter!). What’s better than cheering on dogs as part of your Thanksgiving festivities?
Go on a walk or hike: Take a nice morning stroll on Thanksgiving Day or go on one in the evening to walk off all of those delicious calories 😉 You can even check out a new park or hiking trail to mix it up a bit!
Share your feast: Your dog deserves some Thanksgiving goodies, so be sure to share! Remember to only share foods that are safe for dogs to ingest. Consult your veterinarian with any questions or concerns.
Cuddle by the fireplace: Grab some hot cocoa and a blanket, and cuddle up with your pups in front of the fireplace. Put on some movies, read your dog a book, or enjoy however you please. Fido will love the snuggle time.
Play fetch or frisbee: In Arizona we typically have nice weather on Thanksgiving Day. You can bet there will be some fun outdoor games going on that day!
Play indoor games: I know many states already have snow. If you are in a place with snow, play some indoor games like ‘hide and seek’ with your dog. You can also teach them some new tricks using Thanksgiving food as positive reinforcement. Yum!
Make a DIY gratitude pumpkin: Our DIY gratitude pumpkin craft is perfect for any fall celebration. Create one to express everything you and your pup are grateful for.
How will you be including dog(s) in your Thanksgiving Day celebration this year?

Don’t give your dog turkey. Our vet said they can get pancreatitis . They see more dog with pancreatitis after thanksgiving than any other time of the year.

In my experience, it’s okay to give in tiny amounts but it varies by dog. Of course go with what YOUR vet suggests or you feel comfortable with.
