Friends for Life Animal Rescue is a no-kill animal shelter in Gilbert, AZ. They specialize in taking in animals that have worse than usual health problems who often need extended care. Tonight they held a fancy dinner fundraiser at the local Double Tree Hilton to raise money for the shelter!
Tonight’s festivities included a silent auction, full (delicious) meal and casino games. I started off my evening by greeting my friends, then we walked around to look at all of the fantastic items up for auction. Of course, all proceeds go to the rescue. I bid on a few items then we were off to mingle until dinner.
After a quick presentation in the banquet hall, dinner was served. There was a vegetarian option, and the meal for the rest of us was bread and salad to start, followed by steak, chicken, mashed potatoes and veggies. It was absolutely to die for! While we ate, we were able to raise our auction numbers in the air if we wanted to donate more money to the animal shelter. An anonymous donor was going to match donations up to $1500, so that was the goal (aside from silent auction money that was raised).
I raised my auction number to donate $100 to the shelter. How could I not? In the meantime, I found out that I won a wonderful gift basket for a price tag of $60. It had 4 coffee mugs with dogs on them, a set of dog coasters, a food dip bowl in the shape of a dog and a gift card for groceries! I am super excited about it 🙂
After dinner, we were free to play casino games. There were blackjack and craps tables in the banquet room, but we were playing with fake chips. You could, however, buy more chips for a monetary donation. At the end of the night, for each $50 worth of chips you had left, you’d get a ticket for more raffle items.
I had so much fun with my girlfriends, but it was that much more fun because it was benefiting the cause that means most to me – saving the lives of animals. It was truly the best way I could have spent my Friday night! I’m glad that so many people were out supporting Friends for Life animal rescue. Tonight we helped save lives and give treatment to so many animals in need. That’s what life is about for me!
