Welcoming Fall with Barktoberfest 2017

October 14, 2017 By Amanda Leave a Comment

BarktoberfestFall in Arizona means it’s pet event season! Unlike a majority of the country, October kicks off weekly pet events around the Grand Canyon State because the weather is finally cooling down. Barktoberfest, which benefits Friends for Life Animal Rescue in Gilbert, is the perfect way to begin the next few months of pet event fun. The 18th annual Barktoberfest was once again a success, and this year I was able to share the joy with my mom and her dog Cooper! Although it was a bit toasty, Wynston and I had a blast.

Barktoberfest 2017

Barktoberfest activities include vendors, demonstrations, contests, dog adoptions and more! My favorite part is seeing all of the loving parents bringing their dogs out to socialize. It’s incredible to see all of the different breeds, especially when you see a Great Dane dressed as a bumble bee or an Akita dressed as a caterpillar. This year my mom and I supported local small businesses by making some adorable pet themed purchases. It’s so hard to resist the plethora of cute product when it comes from local business owners.

I brought Wynston in the stroller, as usual, and he got lots of attention for being so good in his chariot. Of course he also received lots of sympathy for his broken tootsie…and he milks it. What a sad, pathetic boy in a cast…

Despite all of his puppy energy, Cooper did really well today! The stimulation was endless, but Coop was extremely well behaved considering the circumstances. Everyone who crossed his path thought he was absolutely adorable (because duh, he is) and my mom loved it 😉 She’s truly embracing the dog mom role. Mom even allowed Cooper to try out the agility course and they participated in the “Best Kiss” contest.  It was a fantastic first pet event experience for the little nugget.

When all was said and done, I left with some free samples, a super fun new bracelet and a snowman collar for Wynston. Mom picked up a couple of collar covers for Cooper and entered some raffle drawings. It was a successful Barktoberfest 2017 for so many reasons. I’m already looking forward to next year, and the upcoming pet events!
