I am so thrilled that there is a month dedicated to guinea pigs! I’ve had a guinea pig in my life for over 6 years now. I recently lost my Kirby on 1-23-15 and shortly after, I rescued my Sammie from AZ Piggie Poo Rescue. I also started volunteering for the rescue and it’s been amazing!
An Exclusive Look at Pet Blogging Through Social Media
As a member of the BlogPaws community, I am also a member of the Pet Blogger Influencer Group. We participate in monthly blogger surveys (which I find really exciting and I love seeing an email notification for a new survey!) and January’s results are in. The results were made into a super fun infographic, and I’d like to share it with you all so you can get further insight into the blogging world!
What do these stats mean to me?
- Just like 50% of influencers in this survey, Facebook does indeed bring the most traffic to my blog. I have almost 10,000 Facebook followers.
- I also wish I knew more about Google+, as do 35% of survey takers.
- A whopping 74% said Facebook is the least valuable to them. For me, it’s the MOST valuable!
- In terms of taking the most of our time, 36% said Google+. For me, this would be Facebook because I post about 3-7 times per day, and it brings me the most traffic, and therefore I put the most time into it.
- Along with 54% of survey takers, I blog a few times a week.
- I am with the 75% who apply for paid campaigns, but only if I believe in them and if I think they’d be a good fit for my blog.
- I definitely follow brands on social media. I think it’s important to follow pet companies that I love in order to stay up on the latest and greatest!
- And last but not least – how many times a day do I check social media!! I’m definitely one of those “So many times I lose count!” people. No shame!

Blogging at the Next Level: BlogPaws 2015
I’ve been blogging since December 2013. Just over a year later, I can say that I am blessed enough to be a full time pet blogger and I’m headed to the BlogPaws conference in Nashville, TN in hopes of furthering my career!
Something tells me I’ve been abnormally successful as a blogger in a short amount of time. I will tell you though, I’ve worked extremely hard to get to where I am at. I’ve invested some money, but mostly time and late nights to be able to work full time from home doing what I love.
Last year, the BlogPaws conference was in Las Vegas, NV. That’s only a 4 hour drive from my house but I had only been blogging for about 5 months and I wasn’t ready. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. A year later, I’m so ecstatic to be traveling across the country, from Arizona to Tennessee, with my close friend Kama and our dogs to experience this life changing conference.
So what IS BlogPaws?
- A conference for anyone looking to learn and grow in the pet or web industry.
- Learn about how to make money with your business or blog.
- Meet and greet with fellow pet bloggers and their pets!
- Connect with brands.
- Learn how to market through social media.
In Nashville, I am looking forward to attending the workshops because I really want to learn how to further my career with blogging. Most importantly though, I’m excited to meet all of the faces behind the blogs I read. I’ve made many online friends through blogging and I cannot wait to hug them all and thank them for their continued support during my blogging journey! They have all helped and inspired me along the way!
BlogPaws 2015 takes place in Nashville, TN at the Sheraton Music City Hotel on May 28-30th. Are you attending this year?!
From Puppy Mill To #PetSmart Model
(Published November, 2014)
Finally I can let the world know – my boy is a model for PetSmart. We were approached by Arizona Animal Actors in October about Wynston being an alternate for a Martha Stewart pets photo shoot. With less than 24 hours notice, we were ready to go!
I was so nervous. Yes, I had been working hard on Wynston’s sit-stays for a good 6 months to get him ready for the possibility of modeling, but I didn’t think the opportunity would come so soon, and I wasn’t sure he was ready. The trick is, your dog has to be able to sit and stay on a backdrop with about 10 other people around snapping photos and shouting loudly…
Well, Wynston did incredibly well. We spent about 8 hours at the shoot, and he wore about 5 outfits over the course of an hour. We got to watch about 4 other dogs have their chance as well, which definitely helped us learn while we waited for our turn. I figured, even if his photos weren’t going to be used, it was an amazing experience and now I have an idea of what photo shoots will be like. I mean, they steam each dog outfit and everything…it’s a serious deal!
I was on cloud nine when we left the studio that day. I was so proud of Wynston. Once afraid of his own shadow, he would now sit and stay in a room full of people with lights flashing at him and loud clicks of the camera. Proud dog mom moment!
We figured if Wynston was going to be used, we’d see him around January in PetSmart ads, on the website and in stores. He modeled the spring line of clothes, so I knew I’d have to wait a while. Then today I got a message from my friend Ashley who found him…
WYNSTON IS ON THE PETSMART WEBSITE! No joke, I was screaming and jumping up and down. My son, once clinging to life, is now on the website of the biggest pet store in the nation, modeling for the most famous domestic goddess, Martha Stewart herself.
Wynston did model some girl clothing. Some of the girl dogs modeled boy clothes. Onlookers don’t know what sex the dog is, so it doesn’t matter what they are wearing. I’m looking forward to seeing if he shows up in more outfits, and where his photos end up. It’s a possibility he will be on TV, end caps in the stores and paper advertisements. He may also show up on the website again in different outfits.
All of the work I have put into Wynston is literally paying off now. Yes, Wynston is a professional so he does get paid for the photo shoots. Martha Stewart tends to use only purebred dogs, and all dogs have to be approved for her shoots before they happen. Her team liked what they saw with Wynston so that was really exciting in itself. I’m not sure when we will get another opportunity for a shoot, but we would love to do another one!
Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive of our journey! If you see any ads or end caps with Wynston on them, please share them on my Facebook page or email them to me. I’d really appreciate it!
Wynston is growing a pretty impressive resume! Be sure to check it out here!
Update: Wynston appeared in a local PetSmart ad in January 2015.
Best in Show: A Must See Movie
In honor of the 139th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show that took place over the past few days, I thought I’d share one of my all time favorite movies, Best In Show, directed by Christopher Guest.
Best In Show is an amazingly hilarious comedy that came out in 2000. It stars a plethora of big name actors, including Jennifer Coolidge, Eugene Levy and Jane Lynch, I found out after watching the movie several times that many of the parts in the movie were total improvisation, which makes it that much more hysterical.
Basically, this movie makes fun of dog shows. The characters are all very serious about showing dogs, while having very extreme quirks about each one of them. The true stars of the show are a standard Poodle, Shih Tzu, Bloodhound, Weimeraner and Norwich terrier.
I would recommend this movie to anyone. Dog lovers will especially love it. I’m not sure how much dog show competitors would appreciate this film, but it truly is all in fun. If you’re looking for a great, light-hearted movie that will make you smile and laugh, Best In Show is for you!
Have you ever seen Best In Show? Are there any other dog related movies you love?
